Mu Iota Brothers
Join your brothers March 1-2, 2024, in Moscow to celebrate our chapter’s historic Cheney Cup at Mu Iota’s 104th Norris Pig Dinner. The Norris Pig Dinner is always special, but this year we’ll celebrate one of our chapter’s greatest achievements – our third Cheney Cup as Phi Gamma Delta’s number one chapter. Mu Iota has been honored by the international fraternity a total of nine times - more than any of Phi Gamma Delta’s 143 chapters. We also recently won the Owen Cup for the greatest scholastic improvement and the Coon Plaque, recognizing the Gem State Fiji newsletter as the fraternity’s best publication for the third consecutive year. Idaho won its first Cheney Cup in 1936-37. This is Mu Iota’s first Cheney Cup in 54 years. The chapter last won it in 1968-69. Those classes are planning a reunion where they will be honored at this year’s Pig Dinner along with the classes of ’70 and ’71. We’ll also celebrate the 50th reunion for the class of ‘74, as well as milestone reunions for the classes of ’64, ’84, ’94, ’99, 2004 and 2014. Pledge brothers from those classes should hear more details soon about their reunions. This gathering is a fantastic opportunity to meet the amazing undergraduates who reached the pinnacle of Phi Gamma Delta success, tour our iconic 98-year-old Chapter House at 600 University Avenue and renew bonds with brothers from your era. The Norris Pig Dinner is unique in the fraternity world. Making the trip to Moscow demonstrates the strength of Mu Iota’s graduate support like nothing else. Schedule of Events Friday We’ll kickoff the weekend at 4 p.m. with Friday’s no-host welcome gathering at Mingle’s and chapter house tours. Don Shelton ’76 and Mitch Sonnen ’86 will be available all weekend to sell and sign copies of “Secret Gem at 600U,” a 300-page hard-bound, coffee-table chapter history they wrote and published earlier this year. You can order your copy here. Saturday Saturday’s highlights include an AKE House Corporation meeting at 10 a.m., an all-house photo at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and house tours all day at 600 University Ave. We have a ticket block at the Vandal men’s basketball game against Montana at 2 p.m. at ICCU Arena. Idaho’s first-year coach, Alex Pribble (California ’07) is a Fiji and has been invited to join us at the Pig Dinner. Saturday night events include a no-host social at 5 p.m., a brotherhood event at 6:30 p.m. and our 104th Norris Pig Dinner at the Best Western Plus University Inn at 7 p.m. We’ll have a special champagne toast, just as we did at the 1970 Pig Dinner to celebrate our last Cheney Cup. Significant others are welcome. There will also be a silent auction with Fiji and Idaho items Saturday night. Last year $5,000 was raised to support the University of Idaho’s scholarships to honor the Greek students who died in 2022. To donate items or find out more about the auction, email Ryan Clayeux ’89 at [email protected]. Plan your trip Our chapter’s premier graduate event costs $75 for the entire weekend ($85 for late signups after Feb. 18). Here’s the link to register and pay online. You also can register by calling the University of Idaho Office of Alumni Relations at 208-885-6154. Reserve a room at the Best Western Plus University Inn ($149 single/$159 double) until Feb. 1 by calling 208-882-0550 and asking for the Phi Gamma Delta or Fiji block. Make plans now to come home to Moscow and support our undergraduates, toast our chapter and make new memories. Perge!
