Mu Iota Brothers
Celebrate 105 years of brotherhood! Join your Fiji Brothers in Moscow on Feb. 28 and March 1, 2025, as Mu Iota celebrates its 105th Norris Pig Dinner. John Sackett ’65, Mu Iota’s only Wilkinson Award winner as Phi Gamma Delta’s top senior, will be the graduate keynote speaker at the Best Western Plus University Inn Convention Center on Saturday, March 1. The Norris Pig Dinner begins at 7 p.m., and will be preceded by a no-host social at 5 p.m. and a Fijis-only Brotherhood Event at 6:30 p.m. A Fiji ticket block will be available for the Idaho-Weber State men’s basketball game Saturday at 2 p.m. at ICCU Arena. Vandals’ second-year coach Alex Pribble (California ’07) is a Fiji. The weekend will be a chance to celebrate one of Mu Iota’s most successful eras ever. The chapter was honored nine times by Phi Gamma Delta in each of the past two years, the most of any of the international fraternity’s 140 chapters. Those national honors included a Cheney Cup awarded last year, and four first-place awards this year. Mu Iota earned the Jordan Bowl (highest comparative scholarship), the Baker Cup (religious, ethical and social service) and a fourth consecutive Coon Plaque (best chapter publication). The master of ceremonies will be Don Shelton ’76, who received this year’s Crowder Cup as Phi Gamma Delta’s top faculty advisor. The retired executive editor of The Seattle Times edits the Gem State Fiji newsletter and teaches Journalism at University of Idaho. The undergraduate speaker will be Logan Johnson ’26, a junior Mechanical Engineering major who was instrumental in helping Mu Iota recruit 32 new members this fall, its largest in decades. Sackett is the only member of our chapter to win Phi Gamma Delta’s highest individual undergraduate honor, earning the Wilkinson Award for 1964-65. The Mechanical Engineering major earned his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the University of Arizona. The internationally recognized expert in reactor design and safety led early development work in small fast-reactors for the U.S. Department of Energy before retiring in Montana.
